Good Morning Colleagues & Friends of STC

We continue to hope that you and your families are all healthy and safe, this should be everyone's number one priority.

It is with extreme sadness and heartfelt regret that we inform all of you that STC 2020 is being canceled. I hope that you all understand how hard this decision was, but we feel it is the right decision at this time.

The planning committees' number one priority is the health and safety of all of you, as well as our Lake Placid family. We also feel we have a fiscal obligation as we all prepare for some difficult budget times ahead.

Your conference registration: you will not need to do anything, we will cancel your registration and send you a cancellation confirmation email. If you paid by check you will receive a refund check, if you paid by credit card that card will be credited, if you paid using ITEC or CPD points those points will be returned to your college. We ask that you be patient, these refunds may take 4-6 weeks to process.

Your hotel reservation: if you reserved your room using the conference hotel reservation site located on the STC website you will not need to do anything, you will receive a cancellation confirmation email. If you made your own reservation outside the conference reservation site you will need to cancel your own reservation.

If you have any questions, contact daniels@cortland.edu

Now on to some good news...

We are currently working hard preparing for a virtual STC 2020 and we need your help. As of now our virtual STC 2020 will consist of the already scheduled Project Management PD being presented by Jon Brennon from HVCC, business meetings, and of course all of our great general sessions provided by all of you. And who knows maybe we can even have a virtual concert by our favorite SUNY band, accompanied with your favorite virtual beverage, on us, virtually of course.

With all of that said, please submit a session for vSTC 20. We are sure many of you have gone through some challenges as of late and have developed some amazing solutions, or have some interesting stories to tell, which would all be very beneficial to your colleagues. Remember what our theme is this year "Climbing the High Peaks of Technology". If what we are going through isn't a "High Peak", one of the highest we have ever had to climb, I'm not sure what is.

We want the hear about all of the triumphs and amazing high peaks you have conquered and the challenges you have overcome. Please consider presenting and helping to make our virtual STC 20 be the best it can be. To submit an abstract, please fill out the 2020 Abstract Submission Form

Please stay well everyone, we will all be back together soon!

Thank you
STC 2020 Planning Committee

vSTC...or not vSTC...

Monday, April 13, 2020 11:13AM

Good Morning Colleagues & Friends of STC

The Planning Committee continues to stay on top of the rapidly changing COVID-19 situation. We continue to hold out hope that STC 2020 will be able to be held in beautiful Lake Placid. Our final decision date on whether we are able to move forward with STC 2020 in Lake Placid has shifted now to May 15th.

We are working hard preparing for a possible virtual STC 2020 (vSTC 20), in the event we need to cancel our gathering in Lake Placid. As of now vSTC 20 will consist of the already scheduled Project Management PD being presented by Jon Brennon at HVCC, business meetings, and of course all of our great general sessions provided by all of you. And who knows maybe we can even have a virtual concert by our favorite SUNY band, accompanied with your favorite virtual beverage.

With all of that said, if you were planning on submitting a session for STC 2020 please, please continue to do so. If you weren't planning on presenting, please reconsider, I am sure many of you have gone through some challenges as of late and have developed some amazing solutions, or have some interesting stories to tell, which would all be very beneficial to your colleagues. Remember what our theme is this year "Climbing the High Peaks of Technology". If what we are going through isn't a "High Peak", one of the highest we have ever had to climb, I'm not sure what is.

We want the hear about all of the triumphs and amazing high peaks you have conquered and the challenges you have faced. Or hold a brainstorming session with your colleagues on a common issue. Please consider presenting and helping to make STC 2020 or vSTC 20 be the best it can be. To submit an abstract, please fill out the STC 2020 Abstract Submission Form.

"We're never lost if we can find each other"

Please stay well everyone, we will all get through this together!

Planning continues...

Thursday, April 2, 2020 11:06AM

Good Morning Colleagues & Friends of STC

Well, we have all now gone through a couple of weeks of "Stay at Home", "Life on Pause", "Social Distancing" however you choose to refer to this. We hope that you and your families are all healthy and safe, this must be all of our number one priority.

For all of you that may have:

  • health care professionals & first responders working through this international pandemic, please relay our sincere THANK YOU from us to all of them. They are all HEROES! We salute you all!

  • K-12 teachers, THANK YOU to all of them for continuing to educate our children. They have had their young lives turned upside-down, daily routines and structure dramatically altered, which is all very difficult for them to understand.

  • young children at home while also working at home. You are all juggling your at-home work lives and teaching your children, you are all "Super-Heroes" THANK YOU
And for all of the technologist across SUNY that are working so hard to provide our faculty with an online technical environment, helping them produce online content and instruction, you are all our "SUNY Super Heroes" THANK YOU ALL!

Now on to the status of STC 2020. The Planning Committee continues to stay on top of the rapidly changing COVID-19 crisis. We continue to hold out hope that STC 2020 will be able to be held. Our final decision on whether we are able to move forward with STC 2020 will be May 1st.

In the meantime, we are working on a virtual STC 2020 (vSTC 20) if we need to cancel our face-2-face gathering. With that said, if you were planning on submitting a session for STC 2020 please, please continue to do so. If you weren't planning on presenting, please reconsider, I am sure many of you have gone through some challenges and have developed solutions, which could be very beneficial to your colleagues. Remember what our theme is this year "Climbing the High Peaks of Technology". If what we are going through isn't a "High Peak", one of the highest we have ever had to climb, I'm not sure what is.

Please stay well everyone, we will all get through this together!

Progamming Change

Friday, March 20, 2020 11:34AM

Good Morning my friends

We have a slight change. Please understand STC 2020 is still moving forward as a Face-2-Face conference, we will make our final determination May 1st.
The change right now is we have canceled the Team Building Geocaching PD that was scheduled for Tuesday morning, June 16 from 8:00 ‐ 10:00AM.
We apologize for this, but we haven't been able to devote the time required to structure and build this Team Building PD. The last thing that we want to do is put out a substandard product to you.

If you wish to take advantage of the Project Management PD being given by Jon Brennan let me know and we will get you registered into that.

Hope to see you at STC 2020 in June and above all please stay safe.
Dan

At present...STC still happening...

Thursday, March 17, 2020 3:53PM

Good afternoon everyone

First let me ask how everyone is doing? I hope that you, your families, and your work family are all safe and healthy. Your priority must and should always be, "Family First".

As we said last week, this is a rapidly evolving situation. We are all now trying to figure out how people can work from home, in many cases not an easy task. Just think when this is all over, what a great session this will make at STC 2020!! Yes, we are still planning like the conference is going to be held. We will still stick to our May 1st deadline unless there is a mandate that comes down before May 1st.

Let's hope that this social distancing helps to mitigate the spread of this virus. As we all feel, this is likely to get worse before it gets better.

Please stay well and be smart everyone

How is STC responding to COVID-19?

Thursday, March 12, 2020 10:44AM

The STC planning committee is closely monitoring the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. While the situation continues to change, our top priority remains the health, safety, and well-being of our attendees, exhibitors and colleagues. At this time, the STC 2020 conference remains a go. We have been assured by the Lake Placid Conference Center they are and will continue to take all appropriate measures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

For our part, we ask that you assist in mitigating the risk. If you are sick or feeling ill, do not attend the conference, and please always follow basic hygiene and precautionary steps:
1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick
2. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
4. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
5. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

As you all know, this is rapidly evolving and changing by the hour. We will update the community regularly to keep you informed. We will continue to assess the situation and will make our final determination by May 1st whether or not we cancel STC 2020.

Please stay well everyone
