More About The SUNY Technology Conference
BYOD is not just about devices, or services, or even technology. It actually illustrates the explosion of the bring-your-own-personal-computing-environment culture and all the devices, services, and technologies—as well as the assumptions and expectations—that come with it.
The shift is happening now; colleges and universities are starting to rethink prohibiting personal mobile devices on campus networks to embracing BYOD to enhance the teaching and learning experience. Many questions and concerns must be considered, such as: the security of our data, student and employee privacy, network and back-end server access, productivity, and scalability; how can we accommodate the increase of all these new personal devices, manageability; campus policies and how we can remain compliant regardless of what and where the device is being connected.
We need to look at this as an opportunity to engage our learners and to enhance the productivity of our campuses. EDUCAUSE lists the following as the top 2 issues: 1) Leveraging the wireless and device explosion on campus, 2) Improving student outcomes through an approach that leverages technology.
